Materials for autumn adventures

Cotton feels pleasant against the skin and absorbs moisture well. Combined with a soft terry sole, it makes a comfortable choice for relaxed walks. Bamboo viscose is known for its softness and absorbency, making it a good option for those who prefer socks with a gentle feel.

For longer hikes in changeable weather, consider merino wool. Its fibres absorb and release water vapour, while their natural crimp helps trap insulating air. This can be particularly useful when alternating between a brisk uphill climb and a rest at a viewpoint.

Each material has a role to play in a performance blend. Filactive® combines cotton with polypropylene for durability and moisture transport. The polypropylene fibre silproX® also contains silver ions, which help limit the growth of odour-causing bacteria. Find out more in the Fuski materials guide.

Comfort for the whole family

For a walk to a lookout tower or a woodland outing, we recommend HAWK and the children’s model HAWKIK. A cotton base and soft terry sole make them comfortable to wear. Smooth toe seams and gentle cuffs complete the design for leisurely autumn miles.

If you prefer the softness of bamboo viscose, choose BOMBER and the children’s model BOMBERIK. They feature reinforced terry soles and breathable zones over the instep. The adult model’s ecru colour pairs well with hiking boots and autumn clothing.

Both family pairings fall into temperature class B, covering the manufacturer’s stated range of -5 to +20 °C.

Socks for longer hikes

For sustained walking and longer routes, EGOIST are an option worth considering. They feature For sustained walking and longer routes, EGOIST are an option worth considering. They feature anatomical shaping for the left and right foot, reinforced soles and Filactive® yarn. In temperature class B, they are a good choice for active autumn days when moisture management and durability matter.

OULU combine merino wool with silproX® and TWIN LAYER technology. The connected inner and outer layers help with moisture transport and thermal insulation. They have soft cuffs, sit above the ankle and fall into temperature class B.

You will find a similar construction in WANAK. These crew-length socks feature soft reinforcement at the heel and toe, along with gentle ribbed cuffs. Their B–C classification makes them worth considering for colder hikes with rest stops.

Socks for cold days

As autumn gives way to winter, temperature class C models come into their own. The manufacturer specifies a range of -20 to +5 °C. Choose the model whose features best suit your needs and preferences when walking.

  • ZENITH have a cotton base blended with polypropylene containing silver ions, a terry knit and anatomical shaping. Extended sizes are another advantage, with selected colours available up to EU 49–50.

  • VOYAGE combine merino wool with silver ions, gentle cuffs that do not constrict the leg and reinforced cushioned zones.

  • GRANIT are a suitable choice for the transition from autumn to winter. Merino wool and silver ions are complemented by a terry knit and reinforced cushioned soles.

  • SEWARD feature merino wool and cushioning across the sole, heel, toe, instep and shin. They are particularly worth considering for taller hiking boots.

STABIL for freezing conditions

For outings in severely cold weather, choose STABIL socks in temperature class D. A thick knit, cushioned zones and merino wool in CLIMAYARN® yarn, complemented by silproX® with silver ions, make them well suited to the coldest conditions in this selection. Fuski also notes that scientists from Masaryk University have worn this model in Antarctica.

A tip from VoXX

Use the temperature class as a guide. Comfort also depends on your footwear, pace and the length of your breaks. Always try thicker socks on with your hiking boots to make sure your toes have enough room and the fabric does not bunch up.
