Why Isn’t Light-Coloured Clothing Enough?
Just because you can see an approaching car doesn’t mean the driver can see you. In low light, you can blend into your surroundings, while fog and heavy rain make it even harder for drivers to spot you. Reflective material sends light back towards its source, such as a car’s headlights. It doesn’t produce light itself, but helps make you more visible when light shines on it.
Bright colours can help too. Fluorescent yellow and orange make you stand out in daylight and at dusk, but they don’t replace reflective materials in the dark. A neon colour doesn’t automatically mean a fabric is reflective. When choosing sportswear, check whether it has actual reflective features.

Where Should You Position Reflective Details?
Reflective details are particularly useful on moving parts of your body, such as your wrists and ankles. Make sure they face towards the road and can be seen from different directions.
Before heading out, run through this quick checklist:
Sleeves and trousers: Are they covering the reflective details on your socks?
Backpack and jacket: Is your backpack hiding a reflective feature on your back?
Footwear: Is the reflective part of your sock visible above your shoe?
Placement: Do you have reflective details on the sides as well as the back of your clothing?
When walking or running, you move and turn as cars pass. That’s why it’s worth combining reflective details in several places, such as on your upper body and around your ankles.
When Are Reflective Details Compulsory?
In the Czech Republic, pedestrians must wear reflective elements when walking outside built-up areas along the road or its edge in reduced visibility, where there is no public street lighting. The elements must be positioned so that other road users can see them. Reduced visibility includes dusk, fog, snow and heavy rain, not just darkness. Rules vary between countries, so check local requirements before heading out abroad.
Reflective accessories are also worth wearing when walking around town. Even on a well-lit street, you may be harder to spot at a crossing or between parked cars.

REFLEXON: Reflective Details for Active Days
VoXX® REFLEXON socks are a practical addition to your sports kit. They feature a reflective strip knitted into a tall, stretchy cuff and are designed for cycling, running and other fitness activities. Before heading out, make sure the cuff is visible and not covered by your trousers.
Breathable zones over the instep help move sweat away from the skin, while an elasticated section helps keep the sock in place and prevent twisting inside your shoe. The high polypropylene content also helps the socks dry quickly.
Choose from styles such as black REFLEXON socks with neon green, neon pink or turquoise details.
RAY: Neon Colours and a Reflective Heel
VoXX® RAY sports socks combine bold colours with a reflective detail at the heel. Their neon styles feature bright colours and a reflective heel element, with options including neon yellow, pink and green.
RAY socks sit above the ankle and feature breathable zones over the instep, plus an elasticated section to help prevent twisting inside the shoe. They’re suitable for running and cycling.
The main difference is where the reflective detail sits: REFLEXON has a reflective strip in the cuff, while RAY features a reflective heel. With RAY, make sure your shoe doesn’t cover the reflective heel detail. The neon colour alone cannot replace its reflective function.
Both REFLEXON and RAY are in temperature class A, which the manufacturer specifies for temperatures from +10 to +35 °C. They’re therefore best suited to milder autumn days. Choose your socks according to the weather, your footwear and the intensity of your activity.

Get Ready for an Evening Outdoors
When running in the dark, you need to see where you’re going and make sure others can see you. A head torch and reflective details work well together. When cycling, reflective clothing doesn’t replace the required front white light and rear red light.
A tip from VoXX
Think about what time you’ll be heading home, too. An afternoon walk or workout can easily stretch into dusk. Before setting off, check your lights and make sure no extra layer of clothing is covering your reflective details.
